CFOG's PIP, May 1989, Volume 8 No. 2, Whole No. 70, page 11 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE by Steve Lucius Thank you for the honor of electing me president (I think). What I have in mind for CFOG is to emphasize our strengths in being a small organization with a good newsletter and bulletin board. We can then use these strengths to grow on. As the one of the last local outposts of CP/M information and as a small DOS group we have something to attract users. Our next meeting will be May 21, 1989 at the Skokie Public library at 1 PM. Dave Jacobsohn will give a presentation of computer development in Illinois circa 1950. This will also be an organizational meeting as there are some jobs that need to be reshuffled and/or assistants found such as MS-DOS and CP/M disk librarians. For the June meeting unless a better topic comes up I could like to have a meeting on modems, not theory but how to get the %$#* thing working on your computer. What I hope to be able to do is to bring in one or two telephone test setups so we can actually have modem to modem communication in the room. This will give us the opportunity to test out modems and work together to get more members using modems and on the bulletin board. More about this at the May meeting. I think we can have a good year. We have an experienced group of officers and a lot of established programs to work with. With your help, we will go forward.
CFOG's PIP, May 1989, Volume 8 No. 2, Whole No. 70, page 11 CP/M Sources List For a long time I've been fielding questions: where do I get UniForm? Do you know of a progmm to ??? I finally got tired of looking for the latest issue of whatever magazine in which I thought I remembered I had seen an article about ???. So I wrote an article listing sources of CP/M software. Soon after, a list appeared on a local RCPM. I added my information and issued the new list. Sam Vincent of the CP/M SIG of the Pittsburgh Amateur Computing Club added some more, and more importantly than that, called a lot of places to verify that they were still in existence. Well, the list is now in version "G": CPMSRC-G.LST, dated May 13, 1989, generally found crunched in disk libraries and on remote systems. By mail, on disk (specify format), for $2 from CFOG, Box 1678, Chicago, IL 60690. Get it, and stop calling me!
CFOG's PIP, May 1989, Volume 8 No. 2, Whole No. 70, page 11 CFOG Election Tepidly Contested Again! Following a tradition of tepidly contested elections, CFOG's 1989 election season started several days before the April 23rd meeting when CP/M Disk Librarian Gerald Pine announced on the Antelope Freeway Remote Access System that he would not be able to attend the meeting and asked Ben Cohen to bring the Downtown Pizza-Eating SIG copy of the CP/M library to the meeting. Former President Bill Kuykendall promptly labelled Gerald's message the the opening salvo in his campaign for the presidency. [Bill, for those who weren't there, was elected President in 1986 when he showed up late for the election meeting and was greeted with congratulations for his new post!] Not long after Gerald's message went up, Steve Lucius, our MS-DOS disk librarian, left a message that he would also be unable to attend the election meeting. Ever alert, Bill announced Steve's candidacy for the top spot! [Both Steve and Gerald were, of course, CFOG Directors.] Gerald, unfortunately, called AFRAS again after Bill K's messages went up. He declined the honor and was elected Vice President. Steve apparently got busy and didn't get a chance to call back, so he was elected President. Re-elected were Jon Shimberg, Treasurer, and Pam Brace, Secretary. Also elected were directors, Rand Gerald. Ben Cohen, Bill Kuykendall, Dave Jacobsohn, T.R. Morris, Mike Andrews, and Carson Wilson. Congratulations to the newly elected officers and board! Now it's time to get to work.
CFOG's PIP, May 1989, Volume 8 No. 2, Whole No. 70, page 11 CFOG Sunday Meeting Schedule CFOG Sunday meetings are scheduled for Sunday May 21 and Sunday June 25, 1989, at 1:00 p.m. at the Skokie Public Library, 5215 Oakton Street, Skokie. The library closes at 5 p.m., and we sometimes leave earlier than that. The CFOG Board voted to skip summer meetings this year, for the first time in CFOG's history. Thus the next meeting (after June) will be held in September. The dates of fall meetings will be announced some time this summer.
